MySpace Launches Events Platform
Share |

jolie-myspace-logo.pngA couple of months ago, we asked whether MySpace could make a comeback. Since that time, they've become #1 on Android and jumped into bulk user data sales.

Today, MySpace has unveiled a new events plaform.

Called MySpace Events, it presumes to be "a global events and calendar platform providing users with new tools to create, discover, share, and manage events across MySpace and multiple social networks."

Key features include the following.

  • A new social and pop culture calendar that "combines your friends' events, your events, events from your favorite artists, with pop culture events and sponsored events."
  • Ability to buy concert tickets directly from an artist's profile.
  • "Social advertising," wherein advertisers can purchase ad space inside users' social calendars.
  • Cross-plaform event viewing in which a user's MySpace calendar includes Facebook events. "We're providing features to share events on MySpace via the Stream and across the web including on Facebook, Twitter, and tiny url."

The announcement focuses on the benefits to both the Myspace users and the individual, up-and-coming "artists" who have used the service to promote themselves. It will be interesting to/> [...]

Star That Tweet! Favit Launches in iTunes App Store
Share |

There's a new iPhone application from Favstar.fm which launched late last night in the iTunes App Store. Like the Favstar website, the new Favit app (iTunes link) aggregates the "best" Twitter posts based on the number of stars they receive from other Twitter users. Although in theory starred tweets should point to interesting and useful content that people want to save for later viewing, the Favstar service tends to favor humorous tweets instead. The new iPhone app does the same which makes it the perfect addition to your collection of time-wasting apps for curing boredom.

Nearly all iPhone users have at least one if not more applications whose sole purpose is to help kill time. Whether you're sitting in a a waiting room or standing in a long line, these apps are lifesavers for those of us who are so digitally connected that a few minutes of boredom feels like a death sentence. For many people, these apps include casual games. But outside of that genre, there are plenty of other apps for quick-fire entertainment meant to be consumed in small doses. For example, FML (iTunes link) is a personal favorite. This app lets you read through people's posts of their unfortunate, embarrassing, and downright hilarious personal stories. Trivia-based Cool Facts (iTunes link) is another. (And yes, both were discovered thanks to a high-school aged family member. Don't judge!) The new Favit application fits right into this ca/> [...]

5 Important Blog Marketing Tips
Share |

It is important to understand that a blog is just another website and requires some sort of activities and efforts to really fuel the fire and get some traffic moving into the blog posts. Depending on what platform you use for blogging there are many ways to be able to get some newly found traffic heading over to your blog over time.

Plugins: Depending on which blogging platform you use there are many different plugins you could be using to strengthen the SEO qualities of your blog. If you are using Wordpress there are about 10-15 must have Wordpress plugins for helping your blogs search engine optimization efforts. A great place to locate the best Wordpress approved plugins would be directly on the Wordpress website at the following link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Content: Make sure to have some substantial content on each blog post. This could be difficult if you have a very image driven business but try your best. Typically around 300-350 words is an ideal amount of text for a blog post. More is fine as well and if all you can do is 100 words than it is certainly better than nothing. If you have to use only images then make sure your image alt tags are optimized for search as much as possible.

URL Structure: By default your blog posts link structure are usually a string of symbols or numbers identifying the page as an ID. You can change this by getting into the settings of your blog and having the titles pull in as the link structure rather than the page ID numbers. If you often use some keywords naturally in your URL structure this will help you greatly over time as your keywords will generate good rankings for those posts.

Online Ad Spending To Outpace Print In 2010
Share |

Spending on online advertising and marketing will surpass print in 2010 for the first time, according to a new report from Outsell.

Companies will spend $119.6 billion on online and digital strategies, from search engine keywords to webinars, while committing $111.5 billion to print such as newspapers and magazine ads. Overall, U.S. spending on advertising and marketing will increase in 2010, but only by 1.2 percent to $368 billion.

Outsell forecasts spending, share, and growth for five media categories including online, events, print, TV/radio and PR/other.

Chuck-Richard

"Advertisers are directing dollars toward the channels which generate the most qualified leads and most effective branding," said Chuck Richard, Vice President and Lead Analyst, Outsell.

"As they emerge from the recession, they need more accountability, and they're spreading their spending over a widening set of options."

Print magazine advertising will be up 1.9 percent to $9.4 billion even with the popularity of online channels.

Other key findings include:

*51 percent if B2B marketers rate Facebook as extremely or somewhat effective, followed by LinkedIn (45%), Twitter (35%) and MySpace (25%).

*B2B advertisers see cross-media marketing as most effective; 78% combine three or more major marketing methods.

*Methods creating the highest B2B ROI are topped by advertisers' own websites, followed by conferences, exhibitions and trade shows: direct mail; search engine keywords; and e-marketing/e-newsletters.
